Engineering is the creative application of science, math, and experience to design, build, and maintain structures, machines, systems, and processes that solve problems.
The Engineering program follows a hands-on, lab-based instructional design in which students design and build a race car system using a Jetson GPU platform and a Traxxas vehicle. Dr Jatun will lead laboratory activities, where students interface sensors, perform real-time measurements, and gain experiential exposure to embedded systems and applied engineering concepts.
By the end of the program, participants will be able to collect and interpret sensor measurement data and demonstrate familiarity with common electronic instruments. Students will also control a vehicle drive-train using the Robot Operating System (ROS) and test a basic race algorithm using camera input and AprilTag detection. In addition, participants will complete the program with novice-level Python programming skills and a foundational understanding of ROS-based robotic systems.
