Below is a list of components to consider when creating an academic outreach program.

Considerations for an Outreach Program

∙ Demographics: Age/Grade, Gender, Socioeconomic background, etc.

∙ Location: From what area is your target participant? (Bethlehem, Lehigh Valley, etc.)

∙ Knowledge: Should the participant have previous background of academic content?

∙ Define the purpose/objective of the program.

∙ Will the participants be able to apply the knowledge and skills learned to their academic studies?

∙ Why is this program important?

∙ Program Frequency: 1 time, each Saturday for a semester, annually etc.

∙ Program Timing: Week, day, half day, etc

∙ Program Format: Demonstration, hands-on learning, contest- based

∙ Consult the Protection of Minors Policy

∙ Run through agendas, demonstrations, technology, etc. 

∙ Collect all releases and waivers ahead of the programs (if needed.) 

 

 

∙ Funding: Be sure to secure funding for programs.

∙ Resources: Secure, reserve and purchase all materials with ample time for delivery

∙ Logistics: Space, technology, catering

∙ Staff Support: Recruit faculty, staff and students to participate as instructors, chaperones and assistants.

∙ Which tools or surveys will you use to assess the outcomes of the program?

∙ When will you conduct the assessment?

∙ Who will complete the feedback? (Participant, parent/guardian, teacher, etc.)
